Avaya Quick Edition is a simple yet sophisticated phone system for small businesses or small branch offices of enterprises. It delivers big business communications capabilities – including a host of valuable call handling and mobility features, voicemail and auto attendants – to help small offices serve customers better and associates work more efficiently. With Quick Edition, all the intelligence is built into the phones themselves, simplifying set-up and ongoing management. Installation requires little or no technical support. Each Quick Edition IP phone operates as a peer within the LAN network, distributing voice-processing load and applications support throughout the LAN telephony enterprise or peer groups. When the Quick Edition IP phones are first connected to the Ethernet LAN, they automatically discover and configure themselves as a functioning enterprise in just minutes. Music-on-Hold is supported through the Quick Edition software. Customized recordings can also be made to provide information to customers while they hold The IP-based full-featured business communications system builds all the intelligence of a phone system into the phones themselves. This unique and simplified approach eliminates the need for a central server while delivering big business communications capabilities. Quick Edition is easily scalable, too – as you add employees, simply plug more Quick Edition phones into the network and they configure themselves. Quick Edition truly provides a simplified and cost-effective business phone system that delivers big business capabilities. Quick Edition is a phone system designed primarily for very small businesses (less than 20 employees), and is also well-suited to branch offices or multi-site businesses like retail outlets and chain restaurants. It’s different from a lot of other phone systems in that it doesn't use a central server to manage calls or run applications such as conference calling and voice mail. SIP-based peer-to-peer technology means set-up is simple, with powerful options to customize. Quick Edition delivers business class communication features including voice mail and auto-attendant and rich call management features including Call Forward, Conferencing, Park, Page and Retrieve to create a professional business image. Quick Edition can connect multiple remote branches and enables central management. Now even small offices can equip home workers with the same features they have in the office. Through remote programming via a VPN or network connectivity to the local LAN, a secure web interface can be accessed (which is password protected for both the user and system) from a standard web browser. A separate VPN device would be required. Local programming only requires a web browser on the local network.
Each Quick Edition phone gets plugged into the network and they all automatically communicate with each other (via a technology called peer-to-peer). It’s an IP-based communications system that uses SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). It includes many sophisticated capabilities and applications, and yet is simple to install, manage and upgrade. Quick Edition offers a host of valuable voicemail features that drive efficiency and productivity for small businesses. Users can see their messages right on the phone’s display and prioritize the most important ones. They can listen as messages are being left and interrupt to answer the call. When out of the office, you can check voicemail via the web and get messages in your e-mailbox. Enhanced voicemail features include:

IP Phone Systems have features and optional equipment that are are EXTREMLY advanced and unlike features found on most conventional analog, digital, or hybrid systems. IP Phone Systems are NOT harder to install than regular conventional systems, but they may require additional expertise when it comes to programming and configuring them. Besides the basic telephony knowledge required for phone systems, a complete understanding of LAN’s, WAN’s and Data Networking is also required. The provided system manuals will fully explain it in technical terms, but depending on your knowledge on IP networking, you may also require help from your local Network Administrator since these manuals will assume you have a basic knowledge of computer networking fundamentals. An IP phone system is PART of your computer network system (LAN), so if you understand its operations, you should have no trouble integrating the phone system to it. The rule of thumb here is that if you can configure a computer network system using IP addresses, MAC addresses, routers and switches, etc, then you should be able to set up an IP phone system as well. Are there disadvantages to an IP phone system?
